Get involved with National Curry Week

Next week marks the 10th anniversary of National Curry Week with hundreds of Indian restaurants pledging their support of the event to raise the profile of our adopted national dish and raise money for charity.

Held in aid of Oxfam’s River Basin Project to help the people living along India’s disaster-prone river Ganges, the event will see restaurants all over the UK get involved in a range of ways.

The Indian Ocean restaurant in Ashton-under-Lyne will be running a whole week of events, while the Jali restaurant at The Best Western hotel in Blackpool will be attempting to beat Southampton`s Poppodum Express`s 230 high World Poppodum Tower record.

On November 26, the World Food Market at ExCel, London will play host to the XXX Mints ‘Can You Handle the Heat Challenge’, where some of the hottest dishes including the legendary Curry Hell, Satan’s Ashes and Bollywood Burner compete for the title of Top of the Hots.

Recipes include Atul Kochhar’s Murg Tariwala, Cyrus Todiwala’s Avial curry and Vivek Singh’s Braised Shoulder of Young Lamb with Mint and Onion.

Better still, try sticking one on your menu and donating £1 from each dish sold to Oxfam, details of which can be found on the National Curry Week website, along with window stickers and flyers.

Peter Grove, organiser of National Curry Week is positive that the UK population will relish events taking place next week. “Curry fans and their favourite restaurants are some of the most generous in Britain, and even in these hard times they will be out in their numbers to help such a good cause.”
