Brian Turner gets honorary doctorate
The Yorkshire-born chef is made an honorary doctor of Sheffield Hallam University

Chef Brian Turner has been made an honorary doctor of Sheffield Hallam University for his “outstanding contribution” to catering and broadcasting.

Yorkshire-born Turner accepted the honour - also in recognition of his work for cancer and AIDS charities – in front of 330 graduates from the Faculty of Organisation and Management on Friday.

He said: “Since leaving my beloved Yorkshire I`ve had a fantastic journey, which isn`t over yet. I`ve had some great travels, eaten some fantastic meals and met some fantastic people.”

Turner, who started his career working at his father’s transport caf» before training and working at the Savoy Grill in London, received a CBE†from the Queen in 2002 for his services to tourism and training in the catering industry.

His restaurant Brian Turner Mayfair at the Millennium Hotel, closed earlier this year, with the end of his five year contract with the hotel.
