The Pubco currently in administration has been forced to close 14 sites in the run up to Christmas

Under guidance from joint administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers, The Orchid Group has closed 14 of its pubs, making 150 staff members redundant just days before Christmas.

Administrators have been overseeing the sale or closure of the sites in the Orchid umbrella since earlier this month, when they exacted an immediate sale of 240 to an unknown company.

While a further 31 sites having now been sold off to the Spirit group, with one, The Dragonfly in Cheltenham, being sold to a private investor, administrators had no option but to close 14 sites as a going concern.

Despite the ‘sad’ news, PwC have said they are ‘pleased’ with Spirit’s investment, which raises the total number of pubs saved from closure to 272, safeguarding 5,300 jobs just before Christmas.
