Vivat Bacchus founder to open new venture
Neleen Strauss, the co-founder of Vivat Bacchus, is to open a new restaurant in London next month as part of a joint operation with South African wine maker, Jordan Wine Estate.
High Timber, situated on the North bank of the River Thames near the Millennium Bridge, will be the first restaurant in the UK to be opened by a South African wine-maker. The 70-cover dining offer will specialise in serving ‘the best meat available in the world,’ according to Strauss, and will host one of the largest wine cellars in the country, at a count of 40,000 bottles.
Kathy Jordan, owner of Jordan Wine Estate along with husband Gary, said: “There’s a real synergy here. Neleen understands what is required to own and run a top London restaurant and we understand the importance of matching fabulous wines with the right cuisine.”
The pair, whose wine estate includes the Jordan Vineyard, Chameleon, Bradgate and Reserve ranges, describe the opening as a ‘natural progression’ into serving wine with ‘great food.’
Strauss opened London`s first Vivat Bacchus with†Gerrie Knoetze in Farringdon in 2004, with the second site at London Bridge opening in July last year.
