Restaurant and hotel ideas for Mother's Day
A handful of restaurants and hotels share their ideas for marking the event

A key entry in every person’s diary and a busy day for the hospitality industry, Mother’s Day is almost upon us. Here

Free food and Champagne

The Brunel in Battersea is giving a free glass of Laurent Perrier Champagne and a main meal to every mother who is accompanied by a paying adult. Dishes include Button Mushroom Risotto served with Parmesan Cheese and Balsamic (£6.95) and Pan Fried Salmon Fillet on a bed of Leek and Peppers Compote Served with Lemon Butter Sauce (£10.50)

Jazzing it up

A jazz band will accompany the carvery at the Strand Palace Hotel in London on Mothering Sunday this year. The hotel will also donate 12.5 per cent of every lunch bill on the day to the charity Ovarian Cancer Action.

Half price dining

The Terrace in London’s Holborn is offering half price dining for mums if their offspring books a table in the week before Mother’s Day. Chef Patrick Williams’ Mother’s Day menu is priced at £18.95 for two courses and £21.95 for three.

The art of tea

The National Cafe and National Dining Rooms are serving a special Mother`s Day afternoon tea
for £14.50 per person featuring buttermilk scones, cakes, sandwiches and savouries made at the in-house bakery.  Diners can add glass of Champagne for £6.  Tea can be followed by a look around the gallery`s latest exhibition, Picasso: Challenging the Past.

Gourmet gifts

The Cookbook Cafe at the Intercontinental Park Lane and branches of Whitbread’s latest concept Taybarns have come up with solutions for children looking to create a gift for their mother and treat them to a meal out too.

Mini Chef sessions at the Cookbook Cafe tomorrow will teach children how to make chocolate brownies and cheesy biscuits that they can give for Mother’s day. While the children get involved in the kitchen, their parents are invited to enjoy brunch with unlimited Champagne, Bellinis and food from the buffet.

Taybarns is giving web-savvy children the chance to save money on presents by creating a microsite where they can download card and badge templates to print out and give to their mums. The restaurants will be charging a fixed price of £9.95 for adults and £4.50 for adults for access to its varied self-service food selection.
