Vacherin has appointed TV chef Maria Elia to head up the Whitechapel Gallery’s food offering, while Angelus appoints Anton Edelmann prot?g? as head chef

Contract caterer Vacherin​ has appointed TV chef Maria Elia (pictured right) as head chef of the group’s first public restaurant at the Whitechapel Gallery when it reopens next month.

Previously the head chef at Delfina​, Elia brings with her experience of working at El Bulli and Arzak in Spain, and will be joined by Daniel Ferrira, former Delfina sous chef.

She will control the dining room, caf?/ bar and events catering at the Whitechapel Gallery in London’s East End when it reopens.

Meanwhile, Martin Nisbet has been appointed head chef of Angelus​ restaurant from his previous position at Anton Edelmann’s eponymous restaurant at Great Hallingbury Manor​ in Hertfordshire.

Thierry Tomasin, owner of Angelus, said: "It was a huge loss when (former head chef) Olivier Duret had to return to Paris for family reasons, however Martin’s previous experience, creativity and seer adaptability in the kitchen makes him an equal asset.”

Nisbet has devised a seasonal British menu that includes dishes such as Slow Poached Brixham Skate Wing, English Smoked Ham and Seasonal Vegetables with Mustard Dressing.
