Restaurants in Japan, Singapore and Austria have been included in the S. Pellegrino World`s 50 Best list for the first time this year, the organisers have announced.
The restaurants from the three new countries will be named at the awards ceremony in London on Monday April 20 along with six other new entrants from already established regions.
Chefs will fly in from around the globe to attend the event organised by Restaurant magazine at the Freemason`s Hall and find out where their restaurant ranks in the 2009 list.
Recipients of a host of special awards, including the Chef`s Choice Award and the Acqua Panna Best Continental Awards, will also be revealed, and Joel Robuchon, winner of this year`s Lifetime Achievement Award will pick up his award.
The list is compiled by the Nespresso World`s 50 Best Academy, a group of 837 restaurant experts, from 26 regions in the world for Restaurant magazine.
Each academy member votes for five restaurants they have visited in the last 18 months they consider to be the best in the world, with only two of them in their own region.
