Restaurants around the country share their ideas for promotions and other special events

BigHospitality picks out some of the promotions, offers and other special events happening at restaurants across the country this week.

Jersey at Fifteen

Chef Andrew Parkinson and his team at Fifteen`s London outlet will be creating dishes using fresh produce from Jersey throughout May. This month`s menu will include Jersey-sourced crab, Jersey Royal potatoes, bass, pollack, scallops, cream, butter, creme fraiche and asparagus from the island.  Front-of-house staff will also be telling diners about the origin of the ingredients to highlight the ethos, care and attention behind and given to all of the island’s produce.

Black rice

A centuries old staple delicacy of the Chinese Emperors, black rice is the focal point of an entire menu at Gilgamesh on London`s Chalk Farm Road. A healthier alternative to both white and brown varieties, black rice has been “proven to lower cholesterol” and is to be used in everything from risotto to sushi.

Nonna`s support

In an effort to support the Abruzzo Earthquake Effort, Sheffield Italian restaurant Nonna’s is adding a discretionary £1 to every bill. With staff also contributing their tips to the campaign, it’s a valiant gesture for a worthy cause. All proceeds will go to Italian Red Cross who helped out the many affected east of Rome. £2,000 has been raised so far.

Breakfast like a king

Taking the idea of breakfast being the most important meal of the day further, Island Restaurant & Bar in London has launched a three course morning menu. A mix of tradition and novelty runs through the courses; choose from breakfast burritos, lobster club sandwiches, chocolate French toast or a classic English fry-up, depending on how adventurous you’re feeling.

Bid for dinner

Killing two birds with one stone, fine dining restaurant The Plough Wavendon used an eBay auction to simultaneously launch its spring menu and raise money for The Orchard Project, a Bedford slow food campaign. The lot was a seven course tasting menu for four, with matching wines. The auction ended at an impressive £400 after 13 bids.
