Mark Sargeant swaps Claridges for Ramsay TV career
Mark Sargeant has left Claridges after eight years to concentrate on ‘the demands made by Gordon’s publishing and television commitments’

Mark Sargeant has stepped down from his position at Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's to concentrate on ‘the demands made by Gordon’s publishing and television commitments.’

Having overseen the kitchen at Claridge's since it opened in 2001, Sargeant’s involvement in Ramsay’s multi-media activities has been avid since appearing in Ramsay: Boiling Point in 2002. He has since been involved in several book launches, including Gordon Ramsay`s Great British Pub Food, and has appeared on both Hell`s Kitchen and The F Word

Claridges’s head chef Steve Allen, a finalist in the Knorr Chef of the Year 2008 competition, has now been promoted in Sargeant’s place to chef de cuisine, to work alongside restaurant manager Yishay Malkov in the day-to-day running of the Michelin-starred restaurant.

A spokesperson for GRH told BigHospitality: “It’s not really a big change because Mark’s mainly been doing Gordon’s books, and only been overseeing the kitchen at Claridges. He`s pretty much been leaving Steve to it.”

Although Sargeant will be concentrating on Ramsay’s publishing and television ventures for the foreseeable future, including a new book launch and an autumn series of The F Word, his spokesperson hinted at the possibility of his return to a GRH kitchen at some point.

Sargeant has been competing against Tristan Welch from Launceston Place in the London and South East regional heat for The Great British Menu on BBC Two this week.
