Time running out for Young Chef Young Waiter entries
Young hospitality workers have just over a month to get their entries into the 2009 Young Chef Young Waiter competition, which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary

Young hospitality workers have just over a month to get their entries into the 2009 Young Chef Young Waiter competition, which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Chefs and waiters from all sectors of the hospitality industry, who are aged 25 or under as of 31 December 2009, are invited to download and submit an entry form from the British Hospitality Association website by 7 July for a chance to win £2k plus a three-day culinary course sponsored by S.Pellegrino at the University of Alma in Parma, Italy.

Headline sponsored this year by von Essen hotels, the competition, which has previously been won by Marcus Wareing and Mark Sargeant, has been tipped by BHA chief executive Bob Cotton to be ‘the best year yet.’

“For 25 years, Young Chef Young Waiter has encouraged and promoted aspiring talent in the hospitality industry,” he said. “It matches the skills of talented youngsters against each other, at the same time enabling them to gain extra knowledge and to boost their confidence. It’s almost guaranteed that anyone who enters will emerge wiser and more skilled.

“As we welcome von Essen hotels as headline sponsor, joining other long-standing supporters, including the Savoy Educational Trust, we look forward to welcoming a record number of entries in this, our silver anniversary year.”

Shortlisted entrants will be invited to participate in regional finals taking place at Darlington College, Thames Valley University, Seaham Hall Hotel, Co. Durham, and Cliveden Hotel, Berkshire throughout September. Successful competitors will then go through to the national final held at Westminster Kingsway College in London on 6 October.

Judges for the Young Chef Yung Waiter final this year include Jean-Calude Breton, Simon King, Anthony Demetre, Angela Hartnett, Theo Randall and David Everitt Matthias.
