Intercontinental Hotels Group has signed a franchise agreement with Crimson Hotels to create a 300 bedroom Holiday Inn Express at Heathrow`s Terminal 5.
The hotel - a redevelopment of an existing 128-room hotel - will be the largest Holiday Inn Express in Europe when it opens in May 2011 and is expected to create 150 new jobs.
Work has already started on the property with the first phase of 125 rooms set to be finished by May 2010. It will also include four meeting rooms and a cafe.
Kirk Kinsell, president Europe, Middle East and Africa, IHG, said: "We`re in the middle of the hospitality industry`s biggest ever relaunch with more than 3,200 Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels around the world being relaunched by the end of 2010.
"We have more than 1,000 Holiday Inn hotels in the pipeline. It`s great news that we will have Europe`s biggest Holiday Inn Express at the world`s busiest international airport open in 12 months` time."
The Holiday Inn Express London Heathrow Terminal 5 will open in time for the 2012 Olympics, for which the Holiday Inn brand is the official hotel partner.
