Cotswold-set luxury hotel Barnsley House and one of the pubs owned by the same company have been bought out of administration by Calcot Manor owner Calcot Health and Leisure.

The hotel's former owner Barnsley House Ltd, run by Tim Haigh and Rupert Pendered, went into administration in May after the business - consisting of one hotel and two pubs - was declared unsustainable.

Richard Ball, managing director of Calcot Health and Leisure said his company would work alongside the hotel's existing management team to 'honour Tim and Rupert’s solid legacy and develop it towards future successes'.

"We have huge respect for all that Tim Haigh and Rupert Pendered have achieved at Barnsley House, harnessing the glories of this historically-significant property and Rosemary Verey’s celebrated gardens to create a luxury country house hotel of national and international standing," he said.

Administrators KPMG also took over two pubs close to the Barnsley hotel owned by Barnsley House Ltd - The Village Pub in Barnsley and The Catherine Wheel in Bibury. Only the Village Pub was bought by Calcot Health and Leisure.

KPMG has been running all three businesses as going concerns since May and will continue to run The Catherine Wheel until the sale to a separate buyer goes through.

Joint administrator Jane Moriarty said: "During our trading period we have not made any redundancies and have honoured all deposits and wedding bookings. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the customers and suppliers for their ongoing support in this difficult time which has helped to ensure that this historic hotel and gardens continue for many years to come and has contributed to the retention of 70 jobs.”
