Just weeks after launching her first vegan café in Brighton and Hove, animal rights campaigner Heather Mills has announced her acquisition of the Redwood Wholefood Company.

The supplier of vegan sausages, burgers and cheese, whose product ranges include Cheezly, VegiDeli, and Cheatin’, was acquired by Mills as part of plans to launch her own vegan foods brand.

Rob Garland, director of Redwood, said the takeover would improve business for both parties, which he described as ‘completely compatible’.

“Heather shares the same values and aims as us, namely to spread compassion across the planet and promote a healthy and more ethical lifestyle,” he said. “The acquisition will enable us to accelerate growth of the Redwood brand around the world and allow Heather to promote veganism globally through her own restaurants and brands. Being a primary manufacturer is important as it gives much greater control over ingredients and quality.”

Mills said of the acquisition: “I’ve been a fan of Redwood and its ethical, compassionate foods for many years. For me, buying the company is a dream come true.”

BigHospitality first revealed Mills’ plans to launch her own food range earlier this month, as she opened vegan café VBites at the site of a popular fish and chip shop on Brighton’s seafront.
