The private hotel company buys Bournemouth hotel Heathlands out of administration, bringing its total number of UK hotels to 34

UK hotel company Britannia has bought Bournemouth hotel Heathlands out of administration in response to increasing demand for accommodation in UK resorts.

The 115-bedroom seafront hotel, which has been run as a going concern by administrators BDO Stoy Hayward LLP since February, will be Britannia's third privately-owned hotel in the seaside resort and its 34th property in the UK.

Alex Langsam, managing director of Britannia Hotels, said: “We are confident that the increased demand for good quality UK resort accommodation will continue to grow.

"Business in our current Bournemouth hotels is excellent and following our planned investment in the Heathlands we fully anticipate a substantial growth in trade.”

Britannia's other Bournemouth hotels are The Roundhouse, and New Ambassador Hotel. In total the company, the largest privately-owned hotel company in the UK, has over 7,000 bedrooms.

Ed Bellfield, director at Christie & Co, the company in charge of the sale, said the sale was the biggest hotel deals in Bournemouth so far this year.

"Despite the challenging conditions facing the hotel sector, we received a good level of interest for the hotel. This level of interest shows that there are still buyers out there, who are willing to move quickly and decisively for well-located, quality businesses, which are realistically priced," he said.
