Restaurants, hotels and pubs share their marketing and promotion ideas

The hospitality industry may be about providing food, drink, accommodation and service, but sometimes you have to go the extra mile to pull customers in. If you’re stuck for ideas on how to make your business more appealing take a look at what others are doing for inspiration.

Burgers and goodwill

Gourmet Burger Kitchen is offering 2-for-1 on burgers and main course salads to customers who donate at least £1 to the company’s Help a London Child fundraising campaign. GBK is helping the charity, which offers financial support to projects for disadvantaged children in London, to reach its target of £20k. It is also supporting the campaign by giving away five BBQ parties to listeners of radio station Capital FM.

Pooch promotions

Best Western Hotels has introduced a number of extra services for pampered pooches at some of its hotels following a 150 per cent rise in the number of bookings from customers wanting to bring along their pet dogs. Special services for dogs include ‘groom’ service – giving owners the chance to order their pets a meal from the in-house canine-menu, dog beds and doggie treats. One Best Western hotel – Monkbar hotel in York – has also devised three walks of different distances around the hotel.

Sparkling summer

Pub restaurant group Grand Union is giving away two free bottles of bubbly to customers booking a table for more than 15 people at its Twickenham, Islington and Kentish Town branches on Saturday nights. The deal will run in August and September.

Bargain wine

Scottish stalwart Ubiquitous Chip has just purchased 12 bottles of 1995 Petrus (currently priced at £2,300) and is selling them off at a bargain basement £1,000. Some London restaurants sell the iconic wine for £2,000 a pop, and the restaurant says wine lovers can fly up to Scotland for a long weekend and still make a saving.
