Britons can now enjoy a pint while collecting their parcel with a new online delivery service designed to boost the pub’s reputation as the hub of the community.
With the pub closure rate reaching 52 a week, useyourlocal.com, an initiative founded by former Scottish and Newcastle manager Stuart Mills, has launched a service allowing people to have parcels delivered to their local pub instead of their home.
According to Mills, the service overcomes the problem of missed deliveries while boosting trade for pubs at a time when business is low.
"We all know that pubs and clubs across the UK are having a tough time at the moment but we also know that opportunities exist to help pubs and clubs to improve the marketing of their outlet and offer new services to their customers,” he said. “The service means an end to those dreaded slips telling us that the delivery arrived whilst we were out. For most people the local pub will be nearer to the sorting office with opening hours that suit all our busy lives.”
So far over 500 British pubs have signed up to the free website, which also allows publicans to display promotions and events to its online community.
