Greenwich-based restaurant and bar company Inc Group is adding two ventures to its expanding empire, Battery and Tompkins, both of which will be located in Canary Wharf.
Battery will open in December in place of the former Nobu-owned restaurant Ubon and will provide panoramic views across the city and Docklands. Named after the financial district of New York, it will feature floor-to-ceiling glass walls on three sides and serve modern European food.
Next year a private members' bar, Battery Club, will be added to the third floor providing a more intimate dining area, with an understated decor comprising wooden panelling and leather sofas.
The opening of Tompkins will follow in March next year in Canary Wharf's Pan Peninsula building where the Inc Group already operates high-rise cocktail bar The Attic, which opened earlier this year. Split into four areas of a main bar, brasserie, restaurant and mezzanine bar, Tompkins will be in the mould of a New York brasserie.
Inc Group chief executive Frank Dowling said the company continued to look around the Greenwich area for more sites and would open a range of venue styles. He said favourable rent rates and a growing population in Canary Wharf also made it the ideal place in which to expand.
"We don't want to get buttonholed into fine dining but open a variety of places. Greenwich is our home. There is a population of 3,000 people in the new flats so the potential for business is good."
