The Cinnamon Club in Westminster has been named Restaurant of the Year in the first annual World Food Awards (WFA) in a ceremony held at London’s Hilton Park Lane.

The Indian Restaurant situated within the former Westminster library was selected by a panel of industry experts, including TV chef Anjum Anand and Tandoori magazine editor Humayun Hussain, for the award over fellow nominees Haandi, an Indian restaurant group with sites in Knightsbridge and Edgeware, and Haozhan, a contemporary Chinese restaurant in London’s China Town.

Organised by the World Foods Association, the WFA was held as a celebration of the best UK companies operating within the ethnic food sector across Europe, from wholesalers and catering suppliers to independent and national retailers.

“Our aim is simple - to ensure that ethnic food is recognised as the important sector that it is,” he said. “The calibre of our winners this evening is a reflection of the fact world food is now a thriving and fast-paced industry that has long crossed over into mainstream markets.”
