Cubitt House opens third pub The Orange
Pub operator Cubitt House has opened its third London site, the Orange in Belgravia, following a six-month £1m refurbishment.
Owners Barry Hirst and Stefan Turnbull already run the Thomas Cubitt on Belgravia’s Elizabeth Street, and the Pantechnicon on Motcomb Street.
The company bought the long leasehold on the Orange, on which it pays a peppercorn rent, for an undisclosed sum in September 2008, and it has been closed ever since. The £1m was spent on a complete internal refurbishment including the addition of four hotel bedrooms on the second floor.
“The location is exceptional, serving residents and families from Pimlico, Chelsea and Belgravia. We wanted to create a venue where all are welcome throughout the day, adding to a thriving part of London,” said Hirst.
The 6,500sq ft property will operate over four floors. The basement, designed to host private parties, has a double-height, glass atrium with an indoor garden. The ground floor has a large bar, with views into the kitchen, while the 60-cover trading area on the first floor has views over Orange Square.
There will also be a vinyl record room where customers can play their favourite classics from the in-house collection.
The menu will focus on simple and affordable rustic European cuisine cooked in a wood-fired oven. It will serve breakfast from 8am.
