D&D London is to open its first hotel venture since The Great Eastern, an 80-bedroom boutique property in London’s Moorgate in 2012.

Designed by Allies and Morrison with interiors by Conran & Partners, the seven-storey hotel will incorporate a bar and grill on the ground floor, a rooftop restaurant and bar with outdoor terrace, as well as private dining, meeting and event spaces.

Two-year development plans will begin on the 72,000sq ft site let by Frogmore Property Company, in South Place in 2010.

Des Gunewardena, chairman and chief executive of D&D London, said after the group's experience with The Great Eastern Hotel, a joint partnership with Wyndham International that was sold to Hyatt Hotels in 2006, he was confident of the new venture’s success.

“This will be D&D’s first hotel and I think it’s a gem of a site,” he said. “We are also very pleased to be working with Frogmore. They understand our aspirations for the site and I am sure will prove excellent development partners for us.”

D&D London currently owns and operates 30 restaurants in London, Paris, Copenhagen, New York and Tokyo.
