Scottish brewery BrewDog have broken the record for the world’s strongest beer with its new brew, Tactical Nuclear Penguin, which contains an ABV of 32 per cent.
Intended to be enjoyed in spirit sized measures, Tactical Nuclear Penguin, whose name is derived from the unusual brewing process that saw the team store the beer for three weeks at –20C to increase its strength, comes with a warning that states: “This is an extremely strong beer; it should be enjoyed in small servings and with an air of aristocratic nonchalance.”
The Scottish craft brewers beat German brand Schorschbraer’s previous record of 31 per cent, and now plan to submit the beer to the Guinness Book of World Records.
Tactical Nuclear Penguin is limited to a release of 500 330ml bottles; 250 of which will be sold for £30 and the remaining 250 for £250. The latter will also include a share in BrewDog, which is aiming to raise £2.3m to build an eco-friendly and carbon-neutral brewery.
