Gordon Ramsay’s Boxwood Café at The Berkeley in Knightsbridge is to close in April 2010 and move to new premises in London.

The five-star hotel’s owner, The Maybourne Group, which also operates Claridges and The Connaught, confirmed Gordon Ramsay Holdings (GRH) would cease ties with the hotel once its contract ended next spring.

Boxwood Café’s chef patron Stuart Gillies, who will also head the dining operation at The Savoy Grill when it reopens in June 2010, said GRH had been looking ‘for some time’ for a new location and were close to signing a deal on an undisclosed site.

“Hopefully we’ve found somewhere that combines to perfection the two essential ingredients of location and space,” he said. “I am hugely excited for the future of Boxwood Café and the opportunity to evolve the restaurant and reach new heights of excellence”.

Ramsay breaks ties with Maybourne

Boxwood Café, which opened at the Knightsbridge hotel in May 2003, is the penultimate joint venture between Maybourne and GRH after the closure of Angela Hartnett at The Connaught in 2007 and Petrus at the Berkeley in 2008. Once the New York-style café closes in April, Gordon Ramsay at Claridges will be the last remaining tie between the groups.

A spokesperson for the Maybourne Hotel Group, said the group would announce the Boxwood Café’s replacement ‘in due course’.
