London, Edinburgh and Blackpool will be the top UK destinations for Brits on New Year’s Eve, according to research conducted by hotel price comparison site Trivago.co.uk.
An investigation into the 10 most popular worldwide destinations for 31 December 2009 based on search engine enquiries in November, found that London was the city of choice for Britons, as many head to major cities for their celebrations.
The city, in which an average hotel room will cost £142 for the night, is expected to attract a hoard of visitors on New Year’s Eve with events such as the London Eye firework display and New Year’s Day Parade, while many are also expected to visit on of London’s theatres.
Edinburgh, the only Scottish destination on the list, reached number four ahead of New York City, as its traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations, Hogmanay, are expected to draw large crowds. Blackpool meanwhile features on the list behind Istanbul at number 10, with the average room price at £59 per night.
