Rick Stein is to open a new fish and chip restaurant on Discovery Quay in Falmouth in March, his first business located outside Padstow

The 130-cover restaurant, to be called simply Rick Stein’s Fish and Chips, will have a similar menu to the fish and chip restaurant on Padstow’s quayside, and will incorporate an additional oyster bar and takeaway facility.

Stein, who operates four restaurants and a cook school in Padstow with wife Jill, said the lease for his first site in Falmouth was signed in December, and renovations had already started on the building.

“It’s great to be finally opening in Falmouth,” he said. “Outside Padstow it’s my favourite seaside town in Cornwall. No wonder we’ve opened an oyster bar. I want to celebrate fabulous Fal Oysters.”

An open plan kitchen, restaurant and takeaway will be designed in the same vein as the Padstow restaurant, while a mezzanine floor above will be transformed into an oyster bar serving River Fal oysters, wine and champagne.

In February last year Stein secured the leasehold of his local pub, St Austell Brewery’s The Cornish Arms in St Merryn, just two miles from Padstow.
