Kenneth Culhane, a chef at Baxter Storey, has been crowned Roux Scholar 2010 after beating six other finalists at the final cook-off at Westminster Kingsway College yesterday.

The chef, who works at the contract caterer's Barclays site in London won over judges who included the Roux family, Gary Rhodes, Brian Turner and Andrew Fairlie with the taste of his dish - a fillet of beef en croûte à la Bisontine, pommes duchesse and sauce béarnaise.

Eighteen regional finalists took part in heats in Birmingham and London before six finalists were chosen to compete for the title and the chance to receive advice and guidance from the Roux family.

Culhane also wins the chance to complete a three-months stage at a Michelin-starred establishment of his choice.
