In an AGM statement issued today, the pub company said it expected profit for the half-year to be below that of 2009 due to the poor weather in the first few months and consumer caution ahead of the general election.
“Looking forward we see some tougher times. The year has started slowly for us,” Adnams warned.
The company said it would be bringing in an experienced retailer to improve the fortunes of its Cellar & Kitchen concept, which has not been profitable in recent months.
It will also go live with an anaerobic digester at its site in Reydon this year, as well as opening a micro-distillery at its brewery.
