Smash Foods, operator of sausage and mash-style restaurant chain S&M Café, has put the six-strong group up for sale.

The operator, who founded the casual dining group in 2002, is selling the leasehold of the sites in London's Spitalfields, Smithfield, Islington, Portobello Road, Leadenhall Market and the O2, together with the brand name.

Roll-out potential

Simon Chaplin, director at Christie & Co, the agent in charge of the sale, said the group had no 'notable capital expenditure requirements' and it had the potential to be rolled out to further sites.

“This is a unique opportunity to acquire an established group of sites situated in iconic Central London locations with significant growth potential. These are well-maintained outlets with no notable capital expenditure requirements, which provide an immediate platform to be rolled out across London and the UK," he said

The business, which currently focuses on serving traditional 'British Grub'. has a built up a loyal following in each of its local markets, with over 20,000 customers signed up to the brand’s loyalty scheme.

A spokesman for Christie & Co said the business, run by managing director Kevin Finch, could be bought as a going concern or could be integrated into an existing group.
