Dragons’ Den star Duncan Bannatyne has rescued West Country hotel Charlton House from administration, saving 62 jobs at the property.

The Bannatyne Group has acquired the four-star, Grade II listed hotel in Shepton Mallett, Somerset, from administrators BDO.

The 26-bedroom hotel, which includes the 60-cover Sharpham Park restaurant, spa and gym, has now become the fourth hotel in the group, joining Bannatyne Hotel Darlington, Durham and Hastings.

Bannatyne, who also operates 60 health clubs and 30 spas across the UK, said: “I am delighted to announce the acquisition of Charlton House. It will be a credit to the Bannatyne portfolio and we look forward to welcoming our first visitors.”

BDO, who instructed property agents Christie & Co to handle the sale of Charlton House, stepped in to control the operation of the hotel when its holding company, Kilver Court Trading went into administration in June 2009.
