Pizza Express owner Gondola Holdings has purchased the former Mela Indian restaurant site in London’s Herne Hill.
Gondola secured the leasehold of the site for an undisclosed sum through property agents Christie & Co, acting on behalf off administrator Moore Stephens.
The site is split between a 65-cover restaurant and bar on the ground floor and 35-cover basement area.
Gondola plans to refurbish the unit and reopen it under its Pizza Express brand.
Indian Restaurants Group
Indian Restaurants Group, formerly known as Mela Group, placed its Herne Hill restaurant into administration to protect the group from further losses last year.
Last month it raised further working capital and it continues to trade from two Mela sites in Surrey’s Redhill and London’s Shaftsbury Avenue.
