Marriott has improved its postion in the Sunday Times Best Green Companies list
Marriott International has improved its ranking in the Sunday Times Best Green Companies list.

The hotel giant, the only hospitality representative in the list of the UK’s most environmentally aware companies, improved its position from 17th last year​ to seventh.

Work undertaken by Marriott-branded hotels in the UK includes the reduction of carbon emissions and greenhouse gases collectively by 7.3 per cent to earn Carbon Trust Standard certification. 

In addition, 25 UK Marriott hotels will achieve Green Tourism Business Scheme certification by the end of 2010.

Marriott also has ten hotel golf courses that have received Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary certification with more to come.

Amy McPherson, managing director for Marriott International in Europe, said: “Our hotels are making improvements that will help move the United Kingdom and Marriott closer to achieving its environmental goals

“We are also creating an eco-friendly environment that will help educate and engage thousands of guests we connect with daily.”

Top of the Green companies list

Office supplies company UKOS topped this year’s list with construction company Stanska second and energy company Infinis third.
