Mercure Hotels, part of the Accor group, has opened its 33rd property in Southampton following a £3m refurbishment of The Dolphin Hotel.

The 90-bedroom Mercure Southampton Centre, which features a restaurant and conference rooms for up to 220 delegates, has joined the group following a franchise agreement with Longrose Buccleuch Management.

The grade II listed building, which has stood in Southampton for over 500 years, has been restored to retain its historical qualities while making the hotel more contemporary.

Mercure expansion

Jonathan Sheard, director of operations for Mercure UK and Ireland, said: “Following significant investment from Mercure, we are delighted to have been able to restore this well-known local hotel to its former glory.

“The hotel's convenient location, close to both Southampton central train station and airport, and within walking distance of the main shopping areas and the historic harbour, will make Mercure Southampton Centre the natural choice for visitors to the city.”

Its opening continues Mercure’s development strategy to expand its UK portfolio through franchise agreements and management contracts.
