InterContinental Hotels Group is expanding its Hotel Indigo brand in the UK with the launch of four new sites, the first of which has opened near Tower Bridge, London this week

InterContinental Hotels Group is expanding its Hotel Indigo brand in the UK with the launch of three new sites, the first of which has opened near Tower Bridge, London this week.

Having opened Hotel Indigo Paddington in January 2009, the Tower Hill branch, situated in a converted office building in Minories off Aldgate High Street, marks the start of a major roll-out that will see 53 hotels opened worldwide.

The 44-bedroom Hotel Indigo London Tower Hill is owned by the Thai Square restaurant group and features two restaurants and a bar, with views over Tower Bridge from the top floors.

Haim Danous, managing director, Thai Square Group, said the hotel’s location would attract mostly tourists and businesspeople.

“Because we have just 44 bedrooms and two suites, we’re able to provide a personalised approach to customer service which we believe will be a winning formula with our guests,” he said.

Hotel Indigo expansion

IHG is targeting conversion properties for a fast and inexpensive roll-out of the Hotel Indigo brand.

Kirk Kinsell, president for IHG Europe, Middle East and Africa, said the brand, although the youngest in the group, is already proving popular with consumers.

“We opened the first Hotel Indigo in the UK last year and have since signed four new hotels in London, Liverpool and Glasgow,” he said. “The success of the brand lies with the fact that it offers guests the best of both worlds – the individuality and unique design you get at a boutique hotel with the reassurance and benefits of booking with a big hotel group.”

Hotel Indigo now expects to open a further two hotels in London, a 151-bedroom hotel in Liverpool, which will house a Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar and Grill, and a 96-bedroom hotel in Glasgow in spring 2011.
