The Sherry Institute of Spain has declared the 4th International Copa Jerez competition open for entries

The Copa Jerez is a bi-annual competition that showcases Sherry as an accompaniment to food.

Open to sous chefs and sommeliers of all ages based and working in the UK, the competition recognises those with exceptional skills in the kitchen and front of house.

Judges for this year’s competition include Alexis Gauthier from Gauthier Soho; Ronan Sayburn, master sommelier, Hotel du Vin; Isa Bal from the Fat Duck; and Charles Campion, restaurant critic for the London Evening Standard.

Sous chef and sommelier teams must present a menu of three courses, one of which must include Sherry as an ingredient. Each course must be paired with a carefully chosen Sherry.

Ten teams will be chosen to compete in the UK final on 5 October at Leith’s School of Food & Wine in London, with £1,000 and a visit to the Sherry region of Jerez the prize for the winning team.

Deadline for entries is 6 September 2010 and UK entrants must make their entries online at Copa Jerez competition.

Kevin Sutherland and James O'Donnell won the 2007 Copa Jerez.
