Gordon Ramsay's Maze Cape Town restaurant closes
Maze Cape Town has ceased operation after resort owner One & Only ended its relationship with Gordon Ramsay Holdings (GRH).
A spokeswoman for One & Only Resorts said: “We can confirm that Gordon Ramsay Holdings Limited’s engagement as a consultant to One & Only Cape Town has terminated.
“As a result, the restaurant at One & Only Cape Town no longer trades under the Maze brand, but the restaurant will remain owned and operated by One & Only Cape Town and will continue to offer daily breakfast, lunch and dinner.
“All employees who worked at maze Cape Town are employed by One & Only Cape Town and will not be affected by the transition.”
Difficulties
A spokesperson for GRH said: “GRH Ltd is purely a consultant to Maze, One & Only, Cape Town. We were aware that the hotel has been having some difficulties but they only informed us of their decision to close Maze this morning. We will be reviewing our contractual agreement with them.”
“The Maze restaurants in the UK and around the world are performing extremely well, with the recent opening of Maze, Melbourne, exceeding all expectations.”
Earlier this month GRH said it would be closing its central production kitchen after shutting its Devonshire pub.
The company, which is looking for a restaurant site at London’s One New Change development has had to contend with a number of high profile departures, with James Durrant the fourth senior chef to leave the group within the last two years.
Other departures have included the man behind Maze, Jason Atherton, as well as Marcus Wareing and Mark Sargeant.
One & Only Cape Town opened in April of last year on the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront featuring a 131-bedroom hotel, a Maze restaurant and Nobuyuki Matsuhisa’s first African outlet of Nobu, which is unaffected by the changes.
Gordon Ramsay Holdings stepped back from the day-to-day running of Maze Prague last year.
