Modern Cantonese restaurant Hakkasan has confirmed it will open its second site in Mayfair this November, a year after first announcing expansion plans

The 220-cover Hakkasan Mayfair will launch on Bruton Street near Berkeley Square, featuring a basement restaurant and private dining room, plus a ground floor lounge and bar area, all designed by renowned Parisian designer Guillaume Richard.

Executive chef Tong Chee Hwee, who has developed the menu at the original Michelin-starred restaurant near London’s Tottenham Court Road since its inception in 2001, will oversee the kitchen and menu at the new site, incorporating several signature dishes plus some new ones unique to Hakkasan Mayfair.

As reported by BigHospitality last year, Hakkasan first viewed the site on Bruton Street in August 2009, declaring at the time that any expansion moves would not be made until the end of this year.

An international fine-dining brand

Tasameem, the Abu Dhabi investment group that bought the majority shares of Hakkasan from founder Alan Yau in 2008, has expressed hopes that the Mayfair opening will represent the next step in the company’s development as an international fine-dining brand.

Following the $60m sale to Tasameem, Yau stepped down as chief executive of Hakkasan to focus on his other ventures, particularly the Cha Cha Moon brand and bakery/pizza concept Princi.
