Following the trend to attract a more masculine crowd to afternoon teas, the Mandeville Hotel in Marylebone has launched one designed specifically for men. The Men’s Afternoon Tea features a range of whiskies, as well as Champagnes, a selection of games including backgammon and chess, and roast beef sandwiches, potted shrimps with gentlemen’s relish, and the traditional scones with cream and jam. A Fashion Afternoon Tea will also be served for ladies.
Farringdon’s new Argentinean restaurant A La Cruz has teamed up with Mendoza winery Bodega Septima to launch a special tasting menu featuring three different cuts of Argentine meat. Head chef John Rattan’s dishes will be matched with a glass of Septima Malbec, and will be available on the first Monday of every month from 1 November.
Elizabeth David theme
Celebrating the launch of new book Elizabeth David’s Table: Her very best everyday recipes, Sally Clarke will host a week of special David-inspired menus at her Notting Hill restaurant Clarke’s. From 19-24 October, Clarke will only offer menus inspired by the cookery writer, who would frequent the restaurant in its early days. The restaurant will also be dressed to reflect the taste and style of the writer.
White truffle celebration
In recognition of the start of the white truffle season, the Michelin-starred Ristorante Simplice will offer a Sagra di tartufo (truffle season) menu focused on the ingredient for the entire month of October. Diishes include Fonduta di Formaggio con Tartufo Bianco (Cheese Fondue with White Truffle), Carne di Manza Fassone con Tartufo Biano (Fassone Carpaccio with White Truffle), and Uova Strapazzate con Tartufo Bianco (Scrambled Eggs with White Truffle).
