Chef Sat Bains will be awarded with an honorary doctorate from his hometown University of Derby for his achievements in hospitality and catering

The Honorary award of Doctor of Professional Practice (HonDPr), which was decided upon by the university’s Honorary Awards Committee, will be presented in December at the graduation ceremony.

Dr Peter Dewhurst, Dean of the University of Derby Buxton, said the university wants Bains to become part of the university as he is “inspirational to the young people who study on our Hospitality and Catering and Business courses”.

Bains, who owns and operates his Michelin-starred Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottingham, said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been recognised by the university in this way. It is such an honour and all the more significant that it should come from the university in my hometown. I’m really looking forward to the ceremony and meeting my ‘fellow’ graduates on the day.”
