Three of the hotels are set to open before the end of the year, following franchise agreements with Fairview and Euro Hotels this week.
They include the Mercure London Bloomsbury (Fairview), All Seasons London Croydon and All Seasons London Leyton (Euro Hotels).
The remaining two hotels will be neighbouring developments on London’s Southbank in the form of a 182-bedroom Novotel and 297-bedroom Ibis.
Both hotels are expected to be completed ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games, with construction due to begin imminently.
Rapid expansion plans
The franchises and developments mark the continuation of Accor’s expansion as it aims to add 800 franchised hotels to its European portfolio by 2015.
Jean-Jacques Dessors, chief operating officer at Accor UK and Ireland, said: “Accor’s current focus is to substantially expand our business in the UK. We are confident that through our expertise as a franchiser and hotel operator, we will be able to take advantage of the significant market opportunity for mid-scale and budget hotels in this country.
“The (Southbank) development continues Accor’s strategic and ambitious expansion in the UK – and particularly in London - with the Novotel and Ibis brands. We look forward to welcoming new guests to both hotels in time for the London Olympics.”
Accor currently operates 4,100 hotels across 90 countries, with 145 in the UK and Ireland.
