Akkeron, which rescued the Folio Hotels business in 2009 and bought Forestdale Hotels last month, has been linked with a move for Butterfly Hotels.

A report in the Times claims the hotel group is in talks to buy ten hotels out of administration. Butterfly Hotels, a 12-strong Birmingham chain, is in the hands of corporate recovery firm Begbies Traynor.

Regional leader

Akkeron’s purchase of 18 Forestdale hotels last month transformed it into one of the UK’s largest regional players with an estate of 26.

Akkeron, which now employs 900 people and has an annual turnover of around £30m, acquired the eight remaining Folio hotels from Mulbourn Hotels – itself a rescue vehicle – after the business was put into administration, signalling its arrival in the sector.
