Accor hotels has signed a franchise agreement with London Town Hotel Group to operate three of its properties under the Mercure brand.

The four-star hotels in Paddington, Kensington and Nottingham, which will open within the next four months, will bring the total number of Mercure hotels in the UK to 46.

The agreement forms part of Accor’s aggressive expansion strategy to increase its UK presence to 300 hotels by 2015.

Earlier this year Accor added ten hotels to its Mercure portfolio following a franchise agreement with Focus Hotels.

The new hotels included Mercure Altrincham Bowden Hotel, Mercure Blackburn Ribble Valley Hotel, Mercure Chester North Hotel, Mercure Hatfield Oak Hotel, Mercure Hull Royal Hotel, Mercure Stafford South Penkridge Hotel, Mercure Swindon East Hotel & Spa, Mercure Telford Hotel, Mercure Wigan Oak Hotel, and Mercure Wolverhampton Hotel.

Aggressive expansion

Jean-Jacques Dessors, chief operating officer of Accor UK & Ireland, said the deal helped underline the group’s ambitious plans for the UK market.

“This is the second franchise deal with a well-known UK hotelier in less than two months,” he said. “The agreements demonstrate Accor’s ability to choose strong franchisee partners such as LTH to grow the Mercure brand in the UK market.”

Koolesh Shah, Managing Director, of London Town Hotel Group, added: “Mercure is a strong global brand which perfectly complements and exemplifies London Town Hotels’ ethos of four star city centre hotels. I am keen to expand our four star offering within key city centre destinations. This deal achieves a part of this vision which I hope will be of benefit to our customers. It is really exciting to be working with Accor for the first time.”
