March is BigHospitality’s Service feature month. Every Monday we’ll be looking at front of house service in the UK. What constitutes good service, and how can the industry help attract more young talent into front of house careers?

The UK’s hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sector is one of the nation’s largest employers and contributes around 8 per cent to GDP.

But while Britain is considered to be the fourth most admired country by global tourists , it is only ranked 13th for its hospitality scores.

With the approach of major events including the 2012 Olympics, the Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup, the UK will be in the global spotlight and needs to ensure it gets its hospitality welcome right – both in the short term and the long term if the industry and the nation as a whole are to benefit.

BigHospitality’s Service feature will take a close look at where the UK is going wrong in its service, and what we can learn from those that get it right.

We’ll also be taking a peak into the front-of-house clockwork and will bring you top tips on successful service from leading operators.
