VisitEngland has launched a green map of London, which will guide tourists to hotels, restaurants, gastropubs and cafes that run their businesses along ethical lines.

Sponsored by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and unveiled yesterday at The Savoy, a Fairmont managed hotel, the map covers a range of offers, from luxury brands to small independent businesses.

“Sustainable tourism is an increasingly integral part of our industry and we are delighted to be launching Green London, the first map to exclusively highlight green businesses around the capital,” said James Berresford, VisitEngland chief executive.

Green hotels and restaurants

Hotels featured in the guide include: The Savoy, Marriott Hotel Marble Arch, Park Plaza County Hall, The Zetter, Wyndham Grand, Cavendish Hotel, At Home in London B&B and The Bingham.

Featured restaurants include: Natural Kitchen, Bumpkin, Manna, Duke of Cambridge, Vantra, Artisan and Vine and Acornhouse Restaurant.

Green London is downloadable from VisitEngland’s website and available free of charge at eight Tourist Information centres across London.

It aims to illustrate that a ‘green’ weekend in London is accessible and affordable for all visitors, regardless of budget.

Ethical, local, fairtrade

“Green London makes it easy for travellers to discover all that our amazing capital city has to offer, mixing luxury brands such as The Savoy with smaller, innovative businesses that run on ethical principles and specialise in offering locally-sourced and Fairtrade goods,” said Berresford.

Speaking at the launch yesterday, Debra Patterson, environmental ambassador for The Savoy, said: “This map represents a wonderful opportunity to share with our guests the very best initiatives taking place in the hotel and throughout the capital and we are delighted to support it.”
