Contract catering giant Elior has launched a new wine bar underneath Lloyd’s of London in the City, featuring a wine list compiled by the World’s Best Sommelier 2010 Gerard Basset.

One Under Lime will be open to both employees of Lloyds and the public, and features the only terrace and patio area in Leadenhall Market.

Basset has designed an extensive wine list that will be regularly refreshed, while Elior executive chef Hayden Groves has developed a modern British menu encompassing breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Only small dishes such as Scotch eggs, Welsh rarebit, Mini shepherd’s pie, cheese and ham croquettes and sausage rolls will be available in the evening.

Elior, which provides further catering offers at Lloyds, including a fine dining room, conferencing and banqueting facilities, took over the space from wine merchant Corney & Barrow and has since completed a thorough refurbishment including the installation of a kitchen and bar, which provides seating for up to 120 covers.

Ian Crabtree, city operations director for Elior UK said: “We wanted to create a sleek, contemporary new look inspired by the iconic status of the building which it is situated below.

“Everything in the bar from its design to the wine and food offering and the premium levels of service, have been created with the aim of being able to deliver the very best customer experience.”

Elior expects revenue from the bar will boost its annual turnover by £1m.
