Michelin-starred chef Heston Blumenthal is looking for an up and coming apprentice chef to create a signature menu for all British Airways (BA) flights flying into and out of London in the run up to and during the 2012 Olympic Games.

The search is part of a BA initiative, British Airways Great Britons, to locate and nurture British talent, which also sees artist Tracey Emin and actor Richard E Grant search for their own apprentices to design the outside of 12 aircrafts and create a film to be played on all flights.

The airline is inviting chefs to submit an adventurous and unique, British-inspired menu centred on the London 2012 Olympic Games highlighting the best of British produce.

A shortlist of potential winners will be drawn up who will be invited to present their ideas to a judging panel, which will include Blumenthal, chef owner of the three Michelin-starred restaurant The Fat Duck in Bray and Taste Festivals.

The winner will then be mentored by the chef to bring their menu idea to life. By March 2012 the menu will be rolled out across BA’s World Traveller Plus and World Traveller airlines, and by July 2012, the month of the London Olympic Games, the menu will be showcased on all First and Club World flights entering and leaving the UK.

Luisa Fernandez, British Airways' global sponsorship manager, said: "We're proud to bring the most celebrated British talent together with some of the best up and coming British talent in the run up to the London 2012 Games."

Those interested should apply through www.ba.com/greatbritons before 27 July 2011, one year exactly before the London 2012 Olympic Games begin.
