Aviko has launched a new Spicy Bean Burger to help caterers make the most of National Vegetarian Week (23-29 May) and increased interest in meat free meals.

Filled with whole and chopped kidney beans with a spicy seasoning and wrapped in a light breadcrumb coating, the burgers are perfect for those looking for a meat free alternative to beef or chicken.

Mohammed Essa, Aviko general manager, said the burger offers vegetarians and health-concious consumers a “substantial and satisfying option”.

“The Vegetarian Society estimates there are between three and four million vegetarians in the UK and a growing number of people which it classifies as either “meat-avoiders” or “meat-reducers,” he said.

“This trend is very much here to stay, as consumers become more concerned about their diet. It means that the foodservice industry must gear up to meet this growing consumer demand by ensuring they stock a range of meat-free alternatives.”
