The deadline for entries to the 2011 Young Chef Young Waiter (YCYW) competition has been extended to 11 July following requests from potential competitors for more time to complete their forms.

The competition, which was last year won by Lucknam Park chef Mark Stinchcombe and Andrew Fairlie and Gleneagles waiter Ben Dantzic, has this year introduced three new skill categories for both chefs and waiters.

Those entering the waiter competition will be competing for Best Barista, Best Wine Knowledge and Best Cheese Knowledge awards, while those in the chef competition will be in with a chance of winning a Best Original Dish, Best Dessert and Best Kitchen Craft awards.

Philippa Brady, organizer of YCYW, said: “Quite a few potential entrants have asked for more time to complete the entry form so we’ve decided to extend the date. But that will have to be the cut-off date, so I’m appealing to everyone to get their entries in quickly.”

The competition is run by the British Hospitality Association and the Restaurant Association. Entry forms can be downloaded from www.bha.org.uk/ycyw.
