The chef’s restaurant, run by head chef Alessandro Bottazzi and restaurant manager Diego Vazzola and which operates alongside Nobu, Ossimo and Rostang at the Atlantis resort, was voted for by the Electrolux World's 50 Best Academy members.
Ronda Locatelli, named after the restaurant's large central wood-fired oven, was chosen for its rustic ingredient-driven Italian cooking and its ‘family-welcoming warmth and unfussy informality' delivered within a premium-grade operation. Runners up were 95 Keroom in Cape Town and 800 Pizza in Dubai.
The awards, run in partnership with Restaurant magazine and World’s 50 Best sponsor Birra Moretti, were set up to acknowledge Italian restaurants outside Italy that capture ‘the essence of the Italian art of eating'.
Covering six continental regions, Restaurant and Birra Moretti are the ultimate judges of the Best Authentic Italian Restaurant in each region. Winner of the first award, for the North American region, was Perbacco in San Francisco.
The award results for Europe (excluding Italy) are due to be announced in August.
