Entries are now being invited for the Academy of Food and Wine Service (AFWS) front-of-house Annual Awards of Excellence 2011, due to be held on 18 October.

Now in their 23rd year, the awards recognise and reward the people and organisations that help improve the standard and profile of front-of-house careers.

This year several new categories have been introduced, including L’Academie de Lanson Taste Award, for sommeliers understanding different styles of Champagne, and the Pub Wine List of the Year Award, recognising those establishments that have improved the wine performance of their business.

Other categories available include The Worshipful Company of Innholders and Maison Louis Jadot Sommelier Award; the Adriano Ramos Pinto Travel Award; the New Zealand Wine Travel Award; The Savoy Educational Trust Philip Thornton Award; the Virgin Rising Star Award; Company of the Year, College of the Year and the prestigious Dalmore Award for Excellence.

Nick Scade, chairman of the AFWS, said: “The AFWS Annual Awards are going from strength to strength but this year we are broadening their appeal to include the pub sector, whose wine offering and knowledge is becoming increasingly important to their business. This award also reflects the Academy’s new strategic partnership with the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII).”

To enter, download an entry form from www.afws.co.uk and submit it before 9 September 2011.
