Up to 300 pubs across the UK are set to receive free Wi-Fi before the end of 2012 thanks to a partnership between Heineken UK and BT.

As well as providing full internet access, the service allows users at selected outlets to access the Heineken Hub, an online news area powered by i, the sister newspaper to The Independent.

Nearly 100 pubs and bars in the capital will be the first to receive free Wi-Fi, before the service is rolled out to 200 outlets across the rest of the UK.

Rick Lawrence, marketing manager at Heineken UK, said: “The partnership with BT reinforces the brand’s reputation as a leading player in the development of technology. The Wi-Fi initiative will provide excellent exposure for Heineken among its key target audience and build greater affinity between the brand and its consumers.”

In addition, free BT Wi-Fi is also available at several other hospitality businesses across the UK, including at 13 Shepherd Neame hotels in Kent, Thistle, Guoman and Ramada Jarvis hotels, Starbucks, Welcome Break and Roadchef Costa motorway services.

The company also extended its contract with Hilton to provide free access to over 17,000 bedrooms, public areas and meeting spaces at its UK and Ireland hotels.
