The Plough, a new Anglo-American bar and kitchen near Clapham Junction train station, is set to open its doors to the public this week.

Andy Bloomer, previously of Harrison’s Restaurant and Bar in Balham, joins The Plough as general manager and looks to make it a neighbourhood bar, open for brunch, lunch and dinner.

The 450sqft site, owned by Young’s since 1875, is located on St. John’s Hill serving 100 covers for dining and drinking with a separate bar area with a capacity for 50. It will have a Manhattan-loft style interior, made by Harrison Design, which is urban and industrial with reclaimed wood and metal finishes and floor-to-ceiling windows.

The food takes its inspiration from both sides of the pond, with a menu of small tasting plates ranging from £4.50 to £5.50 and larger plates such as 21-day rib eye steak with white truffle chips also available.

The signature dish, designed for sharing and served with two shots of Tres Agaves tequila, is ‘Parrot Wings’ – 12 pan-fried chicken wings marinated in a secret red hot sauce.

The drinks list has been created to complement the food with a selection of premium tequilas and rums, American craft beers and draught alongside a range of cocktails, floats, shakes and smoothies.

The Plough will open this Thursday and will be hosting a series of regular events for locals, from live music to special Sunday lunches.
